Portland is the most populous city in the US state of Oregon, with a population of around 600,000 people. It is split into six sextants, Northwest Portland, North Portland, Northeast Portland, Southeast Portland, South Portland, and Southwest Portland. Portland is also notable in that each of these sextants is further split into neighborhoods, many of which have unique names and identities.
Portland was founded in the late 19th century, by two people. They tossed a coin to decide between the names Boston and Portland, after their hometowns in Massachusetts and Maine respectively, and Portland won. Portland also acquired the nickname "Stumptown" early in its life due to the logging operations that happened in and around it.
Today Portland is known for its woke culture.
Portland is in the Pacific Northwest, and as such is known for its clouds and "icy bike chain" rain.
Portland is situated in Northwest Oregon, in Multnomah County. It crosses the Willamette river (splitting the city into east and west sides).
